Flag description: three vertical bands of blue (hoist side), gold (double width), and green; the gold band bears three green diamonds arranged in a V pattern. Kingstown is the capital of Saint Vincent [St. Vincent]. St. Vincent government is a parliamentary independent sovereign state within the British Commonwealth. The executive branch of government is divided in: the executive-governor general who is representer of Queen Elizabeth II [head of state], the prime minister who is head of the government and the cabinet. The current prime minister is Ralph E Gonsalves. The legislative branch of government is divided 15-member elected House of Assembly and six member appointed Senate. The judicial branch of government is divided into district courts, the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, with final appeal to the Privy Council in London.

The parliamentary term of office is five years, but the prime minister may call elections at any time.

Political parties and leaders: The most important political parties are “New Democratic Party”,and “Unity Labor Party”. New Democratic Party or NDP [Arnhim EUSTACE]; Unity Labor Party or ULP [Ralph GONSALVES] (formed by the coalition of Saint Vincent Labor Party or SVLP and the Movement for National Unity or MNU)
